Ways to Celebrate Pride
June is Pride Month! Pride festivals, parades, and events are celebrations of the progress the 2SLGBTQ+ community has made, but also a time to recognize how far we still have to go to achieve true equality and inclusion. Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall Riots that occurred in June 1969, and the catalyst for early Pride celebrations was the need for equal rights to be extended to all 2SLGBTQ+ people. This call for a world without discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity is the reason we continue to celebrate Pride today.
