Our Approach
Creating SOGI-inclusive education is as easy as 1-2-3.
Creating SOGI-inclusive education is as easy as 1-2-3.
SOGI 123 accelerates change in three unique ways to create safer and more inclusive schools for students of all sexual orientations and gender identities. The first is through creating alignment across the region. SOGI 123 helps build bridges between institutions and associations so that more effective, sustainable, and accelerated change can take place. Many groups have been doing great work around SOGI-inclusion for a long time. Aligning their efforts further increases the gains for all.
The second is through educator networks. SOGI 123 creates regional SOGI Educator Networks where educators learn from each other and lead change together. Within these networks, educators act as SOGI Leads, bringing the benefits of collaboration back to their colleagues.
And the third is through accessible resources. SOGI 123 co-creates professional development and classroom resources with and for educators that are ready to use, easy to access, and open to customization. There are resources for each of the three essentials for SOGI-inclusive schools that are available on the resource page of our website.
Policies and procedures that explicitly reference sexual orientation and gender identity reduce discrimination and create safer learning environments for all students.
Inclusive learning environments — including SOGI-inclusive signage, word choices, and extra-curricular opportunities — create a positive and welcoming space for all students.
Classroom resources and lesson plans that teach diversity and respect and include examples of SOGI topics and 2SLGBTQ+ community members reflect the SOGI diversity in students’ lives and society.
