Two-Spirit Belonging in SOGI-Inclusive Frameworks
Prior to colonialism, Indigenous peoples had many traditional understandings of SOGI. These teaching resources, including an introductory document, a lesson plan and unit plan, and our much anticipated SOGI + Indigeneity Learning Module, aim to help integrate Indigenous perspectives into SOGI-inclusive frameworks by providing an introductory understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and being on the topic. They will help educators foster a deeper sense of belonging for students who identify as Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer, and provide some historical context for those new to this intersection of identities.
Small steps toward more intersectional approaches can make a huge difference for students, and your efforts are sure to be noticed. We hope these tools are useful in your journey toward developing even more inclusive classrooms.
